Long Term Water Storage Guide For Families

Water Storage

This long term water storage guide will prepare you for when a major earthquake causes damage to your underground water system, leaving you without any running water.

In addition to drinking, you will need water for cooking and personal needs. This includes hygiene, washing hands, washing dishes, and first aid care. Because of the high demands for water, you can’t store too much water. The usual 3 day water supply will not be enough, we are suggesting storing at least one gallon per person per day for at least 2 weeks.

Single person: 2 weeks, 1 person = 14 gallons = 56 liters

For a family of 4: 2 weeks, 4 person = 56 gallons = 112 litters

Ordinary tap water when exposed to light, heat and air (bacteria) and time, it will go bad. All water contains bacteria unless it has been purified and sterilized. How fast the bacteria grows depends on its level of exposure to the elements above. If you buy one gallon water containers at the store, you have to understand that those plastic water containers are not airtight. Because the plastic breathes, it means bacteria and other contaminants can impact your water.

The most popular method of purifying water on the internet is using bleach, but you should know that is not safe. In fact, when adding bleach for the purpose of killing bacteria and viruses you may be unwittingly be adding other impurities like arsenic and mercury that are very harmful to your family. Also, bleach has a short shelf life before losing its potency to kill bacteria.

So here is a better and an economical way to store bulk water in long-term (for 5 years)

Here is another solution to purify questionable drinking water

Boiling water will also kill bacteria, but this will require heat and fuel and time, not always available. Boiling will kill bacteria but it will not remove contaminants, debris or impurities.

You need a solution that will solve all the potential problems and not add to your stress in a disaster. In my disaster workshops, I often question folks how much bleach should be added to each quart of questionable water. More than 90% do not know the correct formula or even have an eyedropper at home or work or in their car to treat questionable water.

Before using the bleach you have to check it’s potency (shouldn’t be over 6 months old) then you add the correct amount with an eyedropper and then you have to wait 30 minutes before drinking. And hope the bleach is doing its job. But the water still isn’t clean, you must still develop a system to filter it (which should be done before adding bleach) and even that won’t remove these chemicals ; Chemicals (VOC’S) such as DDT, MTBE, Benzene, Chloroforms (THMS);  Dissolved Solids (heavy metals) such as Arsenic, Lead, Mercury, Copper, Zinc, Aluminum and Chromium 6. All this, just to a get drink of safe water.

This is what getting prepared is all about. Finding simple and economical solutions to real problems in advance. That simple and economical solution to Water Purification is a Water Bottle Filter. Our Seychelle Water Bottle Filter with the advanced filter will purify and disinfect your water immediately to 99.9999% purity. So you don’t become a victim, you become a survivor.
