Mandatory CPR Training for Schools

Posted by Wayne Bennett on

California along with several states have new legislation on the table for schools. The legislation plans to make CPR training mandatory in secondary schools across the country. Recently, health advocates in Michigan are pushing the bill through the house. Their goal is to have more CPR-trained students by requiring CPR training instruction in schools.

This bill would make it mandatory for all students ranging from grades 7 through 12 to learn CPR and how to use an Automated External Defibrillator (AED). The students would be trained each year until they graduate.

The instruction would be for hands-only CPR, a simpler type of training that does not require certification or mouth-to-mouth resuscitation.  The Hands-only version of CPR can be taught in as few as 30 minutes, and the trainer does not need to be a certified CPR instructor.
